WHY CHYELP

Find a church without the grades

Walking into an unfamiliar church can feel uncertain, especially if you are new to faith or simply looking for a place that fits. Chyelp was started to make that first step a little easier.

We are trying to help people find a church without grading the churches. There are no stars, no grades, and no negative comments. Instead, each church is described by the checklist items that visitors actually observed, so you can see what a church offers before you walk through the door.

Built for new believers and church-seekers

Chyelp is made for people who are just beginning, as well as those who have been looking for a church for a while and want a plain picture of what is offered. Listings are open to churches worldwide.

Based in Anacortes, WA

Chyelp is run from Anacortes, Washington, and listings are welcome from anywhere in the world. Every church is treated with respect, and every visit is recorded simply and honestly.

How a church listing gets made

Every listing on Chyelp starts with a person who has actually walked through the doors of a church. After a visit, that person opens the site, enters the church's name and address, adds the service times if they know them, and checks the boxes from our sixteen-item list that match what they saw. Nothing is guessed at, and nothing is rated. A box is either checked or it isn't.

Before anything goes live, our team reviews each submission. We look at what was submitted and make sure it is a real church visit with checks that make sense. Once approved, the checks post to that church's listing. The listing shows only the boxes that were checked, along with a count of how many visitors checked them. Boxes nobody checked stay hidden, so a listing with six checks shows six items rather than a row of empty squares or a score.

Only the boxes that were checked are shown, and no church is ever graded.

A church does not get a single review and stop there. When someone visits the same church again and notices something new, they can add those checks. Earlier checks stay on the listing, so the picture grows over time as more people share what they experienced. A church that has been visited several times will show a fuller set of checks than one visited once, and each new check is reviewed the same way as the first.

If you want to see exactly what the sixteen items cover, read The 16-Point Checklist. When you are ready to share a church you have visited, the steps are on Add a Church, and you can browse what has been shared so far on Church Listings.
